Workshop A: Key issues in the world nuclear industry today
30 January | 930am - 1230pm

Introduction:

The World Nuclear University (WNU) runs 1-week courses in developing nuclear countries around the world, with the prime aim of equipping participants with a sound understanding of the key issues underlying the development of nuclear power today, together with an appreciation of its likely expansive future.

As a primer for the next course to be held in Southeast Asia in 2012, this half day workshop will introduce the key features of the major units of the longer course, starting with  nuclear’s position within the wider world energy situation, then broadening out to include discussion of all the key aspects such as nuclear economics, nuclear fuel, waste management, nuclear law, non- proliferation and public acceptance.

For those already with knowledge of some aspects of nuclear, it will broaden their horizons to the full range of issues that underlie it. For others newer to the field, it should open up many of the apparent mysteries and possible misunderstandings.

Your workshop leader:
Steve Kidd, Deputy Director General
World Nuclear Association (WNA), UK

The World Nuclear University was founded in 2003 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of President Eisenhower’s “Atoms for Peace” initiative. It is partnership of educational institutions round the world brought together by WNA allied with the IAEA, WANO and the OECD-NEA to initiative cooperative activities aimed at building global perspective and leadership in the nuclear industry. Workshop B: Best practice is education & training for the nuclear power industry
30 January | 2pm-5pm

Introduction:
As emerging countries embark on their nuclear power programmes, a key challenge is to develop its human resource capabilities. France, which produces about 75% of its electricity from nuclear energy, has developed specific training programmes over the years. In close liasison with research organisations and industry, these educational programmes benefi t from the latest advances in research and from industry operating feedback. During this workshop, I2EN and CEA of France will share its competence and expertise on developing and
sustaining a fi rst-class human resource infrastructure for a civilian nuclear energy programme.

Your workshop leaders:
Claude Guet, Director for International Affairs
International Institute of Nuclear Energy (I2EN), France

Gyuseong Cho, Professor, Dept. Nuclear and Quantum Eng
Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Korea

International Institute of Nuclear Energy (I2EN) is the French actor for bilateral cooperation in training and policy advice for foreign students arriving in France. With espertise of its 24 partners, I2EN allows foreigners lead to a career in the fi eld of nuclear energy in their country to have access to training specifically addressing their needs.
